Understanding Clean-In-Place Tanks
Clean-in-place (CIP) systems automate the cleaning process of mixing tanks, allowing businesses to save time and money. Utilizing CIP systems increases worker safety and reduces water consumption, not to mention they are more hygienic than manual cleaning.
CIP System Design
At Heritage Equipment, we offer single-wall CIP tanks constructed of high-quality 304 stainless steel with a 2.5 mm thickness. All of our CIP tanks come with standard features such as closed tops with hinged manways, sloped bottoms with clamp bottom outlet, #4 interior finish, #4 exterior finish, welds striped and polished, with stainless steel legs, and adjustable feet. We also offer portable and mobile CIP systems for easy movement of your CIP tanks.

Standard Sizes of CIP Tanks

CIP Cleaning Cycle
Different CIP systems may have different cleaning processes. However, they all have these steps in common.
- The pre-rinse cycle wets all of the pipes and surfaces of the mixing tank to remove loose residue.
- The Caustic wash cycle uses a caustic liquid cleaner to wash all of the surfaces at 140 degrees to 190 degrees.
- The final rinse cycle runs clean water through the system to remove any caustic residue remaining.
- The sanitizing rinse cycle uses a sanitizing agent to kill germs and bacteria.
Depending on the system, three to five other steps may be involved in the cleaning process.
Benefits of CIP Tanks
There are many benefits to using a clean-in-place system at your facility. One is increased product quality due to better plant hygiene. Another is that it is a safer and more consistent method of plant sanitization.
Your business will also be able to decrease pollution and production costs because the system reuses water, chemicals, and boiler condensate. They also help to reduce the cost of personnel charged with manually cleaning the tanks, allowing them to spend more time on other tasks.
