Vertical Tank Volume Calculations:
Vertical Storage Tank Calculations

For vertical tanks, only the cylinder volume is used in calculations. The Top End Type and the Bottom End Slope of the tank are not factored into the estimated volume. In order to calculate the volume of the storage tank then, all we need is to calculate the main cylinder volume.

Vertical Tank Volume Formulas:

Cylinder Volume = π * R^2 * L


Total Tank Volume in Cubic Inches = Cylinder Volume
Total Tank Volume in Gallons = (Total Tank Volume in Cubic Inches) / 231

Horizontal Tank Volume Calculations:
Horizontal Storage Tank Calculations

For horizontal tanks, both ends and the cylinder are used to calculate the volume. The volume will change depending on the end types selected for the left and right ends. To calculate the volume of the storage tank, we need to obtain the volume of the left end, the volume of the cylinder, and the volume of the right end.

Horizontal Tank Volume Formulas:

Left End Volume for Flat End Type = 0
Left End Volume for Hemispherical End Type = (4/3 *π * R^3) / 2


Cylinder Volume = π * R^2 * L


Right End Volume for Flat End Type = 0
Right End Volume for Hemispherical End Type = (4/3 *π * R^3) / 2


Total Tank Volume in Cubic Inches = Left End Volume + Cylinder Volume + Right End Volume
Total Tank Volume in Gallons = (Total Tank Volume in Cubic Inches) / 231
